Today we drove to Reine, the southern part of the Lofoten Islands. This was the part of the trip that I was MOST looking forward to. Why? This:

Although we did not have good weather for the 2 days we were in Reine, it was still a stunningly beautiful place. I booked the Eliasen Rorbuer, another spot known for its Instagram-able location. We loved our little cabin, it was very cozy.

There were a lot of cats around the cabins, but they appeared to be well-fed. None of them would let me get close enough to pet them, however.

It took awhile to get to Reine because we stopped so often to take pictures of the amazing scenery. One of our stops was Ramberg beach, which is the beach that happened to be on the cover of the Norway guide. It was incredibly cold and windy, so we didn’t linger long.

Although we were here in May, it was still considered “off season,” so some of the places we’d been looking forward to were closed. Like, the The Bakery at Á (Á is the name of the town) that is famous for its legendary cinnamon rolls, and the stockfish museum. Also, our options for dining out were extremely limited, and the supermarket in town was incredibly expensive, so we ate all of our meals at our cabin and our meals were simple like smoked salmon, bread, cucumber.

We spent most of our time here just driving around, taking some walks, and exploring the beautiful scenery. These are our fav photos from the rest of our time in the Lofoten islands.

 

We stayed two nights in Reine, and then our trip was almost over. We took the ferry from Reine to Bodo, and stayed one night in Bodo. We had time to visit the Bodo museum of flight, which Marc LOVED but was just so-so for me, despite the fact that the word “farts” is in the name of the museum. 🙂

The next morning we turned in our rental car, then flew from Bodo to Oslo for our return flight home. Marc was very sad to say good-bye to the Mercedes. We loved our time in Norway and hope to come back in the winter and also in the summer. My biggest disappointments of the trip were not being able to bike the trail in Flam, and the weather in Reine. The highlight of the trip was of course saving the baby lamb. We’d like to do the entire Hurtigruten ferry trip on one of these trips. Maybe we will come back for our 15th wedding anniversary.
