We were supposed to drive the Hana Highway on our last day. Although Brit says she feels much better, I let her sleep in and decide we shouldn’t drive it. Cell phone coverage is spotty and I’m terrified she’ll feel awful when we’re in the middle of nowhere or that our car will break down. I’m really bummed not to show them this part of Maui but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I still think about that stone church we happened upon in the gloaming during a rainstorm. Marc stayed in the car and I wandered the graveyard and that plumeria tree that seemed dead except for one perfect flower. It still gives me chills when I think about it.

For lunch, we got Maui Tacos again since we all loved it. We spent the day hanging out at the condo: playing Scrabble, swimming in the pool and ocean, watching movies, and reading. It was another hot day. Marc and I were in the pool and met a nerdy dude from Texas and we talked with him about video games, board games, and wrestling. At 5:00, B & J popped their heads over the balcony and yelled they were hungry so I dragged myself out of the pool to go make dinner. We cleaned out the fridge and I opened the wine I’d bought.

It took forever to pack. We all gave Jessa a hard time about the absolute disarray of her suitcase. Brit is a master packer like her auntie. We started The Wedding but it was so awful we turned it off and watched Adventure Time on TV before going to bed. I’m so sad to be leaving tomorrow!

Last Day Maui

We woke up at 7:30 and were checked out of the condo by 9:00. We took the girls to Sea House Restaurant, one of our favs. Brit wanted the macadamia nut pancakes and so did I and I told her we could split it since the portion is huge. We also had a side of bacon. She was pouty about not getting her own, then ate half and said she felt sick LOL. Told you so! Jessa had the spicy chicken breakfast burrito and Marc had the Kalua pork plate. Everything was delicious and the service was amazing like it always is.

Even though the girls had spent all of their spending money from grandpa and Roseanne, we stopped at Costco and bought them more souvenirs and gifts for their families because they are SPOILED. I bought macadamia nuts for our catsitter and for my coworkers. We went to the F-Mart fabric store and I bought some fabric for mom. Then we turned in the rental car and were at the airport by noon. Breezed through security then had two hours to wait. At 1:00, everyone was hungry so we ate at Burger King. I bought a t-shirt for our catsitter and Brit needed a charger for her phone. I left her in the store to go to the bathroom and when I came back, she told me some creeper had approached her and tried talking to her. She ignored him, had her earphones in but wasn’t playing music, and she heard him say “Girls are stupid.” I was like, where is he, and she said he left. 5 minutes later, we saw security escorting him away. I can’t even imagine being a young woman today…

On the plane, I finally let Jessa have some coffee although I still think she’s too young. We alternated playing Quiddler and travel Scrabble and watched movies. Dinner was teriyaki chicken and of course FREE WINE. The flight attendant asked Jessa if she wanted some wine?! Marc and I had Mai Tais to celebrate that no one had died, been kidnapped, or suffered terrible sunburns. Britney told me what a wonderful time she had and thanked me for the trip and we both got teary-eyed. I feel so lucky to be able to have given them this experience.
