Day 9. Friday. Day trip to Sorrento. We intended to get up early and come back from Sorrento early. We woke up at 8:00 AM and ready at 9:00. Marc heard the bus, honking around the corner. It was the SITA. We went down at 9:30. As we waited, we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes attracted to the puddles of water. Marc raced up the 160 stepts to get the bug spray, not sure when the next bus would come honking around the corner. He came back down and we waited. Anna came by and we talked to her until 10:20 when the bus finally came. It took 1 h 10 min to get to Sorrento due to traffic in Positano. At least we had seats this time. In Positano, some idiot with a Southern accent told the driver “Gracias” as he got off the bus…
It was hot and crowded in Sorrento. We had terrible trammezini and ate in a square with a statue. We decided that would be our last time getting trammezini. They were so good in Venice! We wandered. I found a yarn shop and bought some for our catsitter. We bought an inlaid wood plaque for 8 euros. Almost bought new silverware for 160 euros—it was gorgeous. We decided to wait to go by the supermarket so we wouldn’t have to carry groceries around. There were lots of street merchants and we did some sight-seeing. We stopped for desserts and cappuccini, a piece of lemon pie for me and a cookie pie thingy for Marc. Molto delicioso for 5 euros!
We were done at 2:30 and discovered that the shops were closed until 4:30 for lunch… Anna had invited us for dinner in her apartment that evening. We were thrilled to be the dinner guests of our hostess and looked forward to a “real” home-cooked, Italian meal. She served:
- 2 kinds of pizza on homemade crust
- red and white vino
- Caprese salad
- asparagus with fresh oregano
- homemade gelato
- limoncello and strawberry sponge cake
- limoncello to drink
What a feast!! They even had a bottle of champagne but we didn’t open it. We met Anna’s husband Andrea. Anna showed us pictures of the building of the house and was a wonderful hostess. Tomorrow we would be leaving for Ravello and I was sad to be leaving our “Villa Amore” and our new friends.
Go on the next part of the journey!
